After his PhD at the Max-Planck-Institute for Biophysical Chemistry at Goettingen (Germany) in 1982 Horst Weller went to the Hahn-Meitner-Institute Berlin (Germany), where he started his research on nanoparticles. Since 1994 he is full professor at the Institute of Physical Chemistry at Hamburg University and since 2005 he additionally leads the Centre for Applied Nanotechnology (CAN) as the scientific director. Horst Weller is also one of the spokesmen of the federal cluster of excellence “The Hamburg Centre of Ultrafast Imaging”, founding member of the Hamburg Academy of Science and distinguished adjunct professor at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah. His research activities include various aspects of nanoparticle research ranging from solid state physics to biomedical applications.
